Richard J. Brinkman, 78, Jasper

Richard J. Brinkman, 78, of Jasper, died Tuesday, December 10, Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in Ferdinand March 5, 1941, to Leo Joseph and Anna Marie (Bencken) Brinkman. He married Ruth Ann Neuman September 7, 1963, at Trinity United Church of Christ in Jasper.

Richard worked as an iron worker on a number of projects around the United States including the St. Louis Arch, the Rockport power plant, and surrounding Dubois County Schools. He obtained his pilot’s license and flew for personal enjoyment. He was a member of Trinity, Jasper Outdoor Recreation, and Iron Workers Local Union 103. He raised horses and enjoyed horseback riding, flying planes, gardening,  the outdoors, and hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Brinkman; three daughters, Christine Dodd and husband Daniel and Cynthia Denu, all of Jasper, and Catherine Fullington and husband John, Velpen; two sons, Chad and Curt Brinkman, both of Jasper; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two on the way; one sister, Florence Hostetter and husband Gene, Jasper; and one brother, Jerome Brinkman, Ferdinand.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Bridget Brinkman.

Friends may call from 1-6 p.m. Sunday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper and from 1011 a.m. Monday Trinity United Church of Christ. Memorial contributions can be made to Trinity Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at Funeral services at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. Pastor Jane Hillman will officiate.
