Alice G. Betz, 94, Schnellville
Alice G. Betz, 94, of Schnellville, died Saturday, September 28, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. She was born in Duff June 9, 1925, to Anthony and Agnes (Mehringer) Hopf. She married Leo F. Betz May 11, 1948, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg. He died March 30, 2008.
Alice was a homemaker and a member of Divine Mercy Parish – Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville and its St. Anne’s Society. She and her husband were recipients of the Simon Brute’ Award. She was also a member of the Schnellville Home Ec. Club and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, feeding the birds, and baking cookies for the grandkids.
She is survived by five daughters, Shirley Englert and husband Cyril and Nancy Foll-Welp and husband Mark, all of St. Anthony, Mary Wagner and husband David, St. Meinrad, Ruth Gehlhausen and husband Daniel, Schnellville, and Rita McCain and husband Kent, Ireland; four sons, Larry Betz and wife Connie, Charlie Betz and wife Rosemary, Clarence Betz and wife Marilyn, and Gary Betz and wife Denise, all of Schnellville, 25 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and one brother, Fred Hopf, Jasper.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sons who died in infancy, Raymond and Dennis Betz, and seven brothers, Bill, Rufus, Urban, Ed, Dan, Emil Paul, and Jerome Anthony Hopf.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church. The Sacred Heart St. Anne’s Society will pray a rosary at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral Home.
