Elizabeth Laverne “Nip” Meyer, 86, St. Henry

Elizabeth Laverne “Nip” Meyer, 86, of St. Henry, died Monday September 23, at her home. She was born in St. Henry March 30, 1933, to Jim and Mary (Kemper) Schwinghamer. She married Clarence “Oaks” Meyer August 23, 1952, at St. Henry Catholic Church. He died February 15, 1998.

Nip and Oaks owned and operated the Bungalow Bar in St. Henry for 35 years. She was a lifelong member of St. Henry Parish and its Christian Mothers Society. She was a member of St. Henry CK of A and the St. Henry Community Club and was on the funeral ministry group. She enjoyed painting Christmas items, glass jars, and other arts and crafts. She decorated wedding and other special occasion cakes and enjoyed being with her family, relatives, and friends.

She is survived by one daughter, Gerri “BoBo” Buse and husband Jerry, Holland;  four sons, Donald Meyer and wife Laure, Timothy Meyer and wife Joni, Patrick Meyer and wife Cindy, and Robert Meyer and wife Lois, all of St. Henry; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris J. Herman and husband Bernard, Tell City; one brother,  Bill Schwinghamer and wife Ruth, Dale;  and sister-in-law Dodie Schwinghamer, St. Henry.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer and Floyd Schwinghamer.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 7-9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the St. Henry Cemetery Fund or the St. Henry Volunteer Fire Department. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherfuneralhome.com. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Henry Church with burial following  in the church cemetery.
