Glen R. Werne, 73, Jasper
Glen R. Werne, 73, of Jasper, died Monday, June 3, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in St. Meinrad December 22, 1945, to Victor and Josephine (Kunkler) Werne. He married Marilyn S. Schnaus September 19, 1970, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland. She died February 3, 2011.
Glen was a graduate of Dale High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during Vietnam in the 3rd BDE Task Force, 25th INF Division. He was a pressman, production manager, and foreman at Abbey Press for over 40 years. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper. He enjoyed playing golf and watching sports, especially his grandkids playing, and was an avid Cincinnati Bengals fan.
He is survived by three daughters, Denise Kleiser and husband Rob, Jasper, Jennifer Lashley and husband Pete, Lamar, and Allison Fromme and husband Zach, Greenville, North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Austin, Reagan, Grant, Mason, Pierce, Caleb, Carter, and Lucas; two sisters, Mary Werne, Ferdinand, and Martha Tempel and husband Larry, Brazil; two brothers, David Werne and wife Bessie, St. Meinrad, and John Werne, Ferdinand;and his mother-in-law, Dorothy Schnaus, Ireland.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one sister-in-law, Linda Werne, and his father-in-law, Leroy Schnaus.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions can be made to Holy Family Church, the Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center, or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherkluesner.com. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. VFW Post 673 will conduct military graveside rites.
