LaVerne Uebelhor, 84, Ferdinand

LaVerne Uebelhor, 84, of Ferdinand, died Sunday, February 10, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. She was born in Schnellville May 20, 1934, to Albert and Emma (Schnell) Welp. She married Jim Uebelhor August 21, 1954, in Schnellville.

LaVerne was a member of Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Church and its St. Anne’s Sodality. She was employed with General Electric in Tell City before she and her husband Jim formed Uebelhor TV in 1954. She helped grow the family business until she retired in 1990. She enjoyed good food, good music, and many trips to the Corydon Jamboree with friends.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jim Uebelhor; two sons, Scott and wife Mary Sue, St. St. Anthony, and Keith Uebelhor, Ferdinand; one brother, Maryvin Welp and wife Mary Faye, Schnellville; two sisters, Doris Birk and husband Bill, Brownsburg, and Mary Catherine Persohn, Jasper; five grandchildren, Kelsey Jones and Morgan, Cory, Cole, and Randi Uebelhor; and brother-in –law, Bob Neuhoff, Jasper.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Neuhoff and Irma Hasenour.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 7-9:30 a.m. Thursday at Becher Funeral home in Ferdinand. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Jim and Laverne Uebelhor Endowment Fund in care of the Dubois County Community Foundation. Online condolences can be shared at Funeral services at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ferdinand Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
