High Water Rescue
On 9/10/18 at 7:00 a.m. the Dubois County Sheriffs Department responded to Northeast of the City of Huntingburg to a report of an occupied vehicle in high water. Sheriffs Deputies, Memorial EMS, and Huntingburg First Responders went to the scene. The driver was able to exit his vehicle and was standing on the roof when emergency crews arrived. The vehicle had been swept off of the flooded roadway into a ditch. It was in about 5 feet of water. The driver was 22 year old Sean Clark of Lincoln City, IN. He had been driving a 2013 scion passenger car. First responders were able to safely reach him and bring him to safety.
Clark will be cited for disregarding the signs marking the road closed. His vehicle was not able to be retrieved at the time of the call and will be retrieved at a later time. It will be a total loss. Crews were on scene for about one hour. Clark refused medical treatment at the scene. Drivers are reminded to never attempt to drive through high water and be aware of signs marking closed roadways.
