Poppelwell Trial Date Set
Jasper (NNDC) – The trial date of accused murderer Kyle Popplewell has been set for June 6th.
The 25-year old Ferdinand man is charged with felony murder in connection with the death of Jeff Perry at Perry’s just outside St. Henry. Popplewell is also charged with two counts of Level One felony rape, Level One felony burglary, Level Two felony criminal confinement, Level Five felony battery resulting in bodily harm and Level Six felony intimidation.
The Ferdinand man allegedly broke into Perry’s home and stabbed him to death. DCSD says Popplewell slashed a woman inside the home before raping a second woman several times. All this happened during a more than three hour standoff with police outside according to DCSD.
After a hearing Monday in Dubois Circuit Court, court personnel and Jasper first responders were called to assist Popplewell’s mother who apparently became overcome with emotion from the hearing that she passed out for a short time in a nearby women’s restroom.
Jasper Fire Chief Kenny Hochgesang says Penny Popplewell declined medical attention and left under her own power. Earlier, her husband Jeff was escorted from the courthouse by Dubois County Sheriff’s deputies after he became boisterous and somewhat belligerent while first responders were attending to his wife.
