Kraay Guilty Of Four Counts Of Child Molesting; Could Get Up To 50 Years In PrisonJASPER (NNDC) – A Birdseye man has been found guilty of four counts of Child Molesting and one count of Performing an Act Harmful to Minors.
39-year old Brent Kraay was found guilty Thursday by a Dubois County jury following a three-day trial.
Kraay was initially arrested back in March of 2013 for two Class C felony counts of Child Molesting following a joint police agency investigation.
This past May, current Dubois County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Cheryl Hillenburg amended the charges against Kraay to include two additional Class A felony counts of Child Molesting and two additional Class C felony Child Molesting counts.
Thursday, he was found guilty of the two Class A counts and two of the four class C felony charges. He was also found guilty of a Class D felony count of Performing an Act Harmful to Minors.
Hillenburg joined the prosecutor’s office January 1st, 2015 and amended the charges against Kraay after she says she reinvestigated the evidence in the case. Hillenburg says the additional charges better reflect the seriousness of the crime Kraay is now guilty of.
After he was found guilty Thursday, Kraay was taken to the Dubois County Security Center where he will await sentencing December 18th.
Under Indiana law, he could get anywhere from 20 to 50 years in prison for each of the Class A felony counts.
