Farm Fire Near Dubois Contained; No One Hurt In Local Traffic Accident (BLOTTER)
KELLERVILLE (NNDC) – A small fire did no real property damage late last night just west of the Dubois Crossroads. At just after 11:00PM, Dubois Volunteer firefighters were called a small woods fire at the Bill Leistner property located near the intersection of North 400 East and Indiana 56. The fire was less than an acre in size. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control quickly without any property damage.
Mr. Leistner told DVFD he was burning some scrap lumber in a barrel last Friday. He says he dumped the barrel earlier in the day on Wednesday thinking there shouldn’t be anything hot or smoldering embers left in the barrel. He told DVFD he did feel for any heat in the barrel and found none.
A neighbor to Mr. Leistner’s property called him just before firefighters were dispatched to tell him that there was a fire on his property. Mr. Leistner’s wife, Beth, called 911 while Leistner went to investigate the fire himself.
Driver Cited In Jasper Chain-Reaction Accident
JASPER (NNDC) – No one was injured in a three-vehicle chain-reaction accident in Jasper Wednesday afternoon. Jasper police say one of the drivers involved, 23-year old Crystal Hochgesang of Jasper was cited for speed too fast to avoid a collision. The accident happened at about 4:10PM along Newton Street.
JPD says pickup trucks driven by 18-year old Zachary Rueber of rural Jasper and 33-year old Rey Perez Benavides of Jasper were stopped for traffic. JPD says Hochgesang then rear-ended Rueber’s vehicle which then collided into the rear of Benavides’ truck.
