Zane C. Wininger, 82, Dubois
Zane C. Wininger, 82, of Dubois, died Wednesday (August 5) at Brookside Village in Jasper. He was born in French January 16, 1933, to Philip and Carrie (Deremiah) Wininger. He married Imogene Voelkel September 3, 1955, at St. Peter’s United Church Christ in Dubois.
Zane was a 1951 graduate of French Lick High School. He worked as a machine apprentice at New York Central Railroad in Indianapolis. He retired from ANR Pipeline Company at Celestine, where he worked for 30 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Korea. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post No. 673 and American Legion Post No. 147 in Jasper. He was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Dubois, and Masonic Line Lodge No. 743 in Jasper. He received the 50 year pin from the Masonic Lodge where he had served as Worshipful Master. In his younger days he enjoyed flying Piper Cub airplanes. He was active and served as president in a number of local clubs and organizations, including the Dubois Community Club, Dubois Jaycees, and the Dubois Town Board.
He is survived by his wife, Imogene Wininger; two sons, David Wininger and wife Becky, Columbus, Ohio, and Dwight Wininger and wife Cindy, Danville, California; and seven grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Elvira Turley.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, and from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Dubois. Masonic Line Lodge No. 743 will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Church or to the Masonic Line Lodge. VFW Post No. 673 will conduct military gravesite rites. Pastor John Sterrett will officiate.
