Sarah “Margaret” Schroeder, 83, Jasper
Sarah “Margaret” Schroeder, 83, of Jasper, died Wednesday (August 5) at Jasper Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center. She was born in Kyana July 17, 1932, to Clifford and Elsie (Waddle) Huff. She married Bill Schroeder September 2, 1952, in Jasper. He died August 6, 1985. Her husband was the second recipient of the artificial heart.
Margaret was a homemaker and worked at Newberry’s in Jasper. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the St. Ann’s Society, American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 147, the Ladies of the Moose, and the Jasper Circle of the Daughters of Isabella. She was a Stephen’s minister and was the women’s chairperson of the American Heart Association. She enjoyed crocheting, going to the casino, bingo, car trips ending with ice cream, and spending time with friends and family.
She is survived by two daughters, Monica Bohnert and husband Robert, Sparta, Illinois, and Cheryl Humbert and husband Glenn, Jasper; four sons, Mel Schroeder and wife Patti, Ferdinand, and Stan, Terry, and Rod Schroeder, all of Jasper; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Nora Fleck and husband Ralph, Kyana; and one brother, Frank Huff, Kyana.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and Riley Huff.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at the Becher-Kluesner Funeral Home in Jasper. The St. Ann’s Society will pray a rosary at 1:45. The American Legion Auxilary will conduct a memorial service at 6. Services at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph’s Church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery.
