Employee Theft Report Leads To Arrest; More Charges Possible

higgsHUNTINGBURG (NNDC) – Huntingburg police arrested an employee of Casey’s General Store Tuesday night after responding to a call of possible employee theft at the South Main Street business.

HPD says after talking with store managers, a suspect was identified as 32-year old Alicia Higgs of Huntingburg. Store managers say Higgs is believed to have taken money from the store’s cash register. HPD also learned that Higgs was wanted on warrants out of Gibson County for Aggravated Assault.

HPD took Higgs into custody when she arrived for work at Casey’s Tuesday night for the outstanding warrant.

HPD says while officers were placing Higgs under arrest they immediately smelled a strong odor of alcohol.

Field tests were performed which HPD says she failed.

She was then transported to the Jasper Police Department for a certified chemical test which HPD says she also failed (.113g/210).

A subsequent check of her drivers license found it to be suspended.

Higgs is being held without bond pending extradition to Gibson County for the Aggravated Assault charge. She also faces charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated, and for Driving with a Suspended License of which she has a prior conviction of the same offense in the last 10 years.

HPD also says the theft investigation continues and additional charges could be filed against Higgs.
