Robert J. Stemle, 86, Jasper
Robert J. Stemle, 86, of Jasper, died Monday (July 20) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in Jasper February 23, 1929, to Leopold and Kathy (Otto) Stemle. He married Rosemary C. Hauser November 27, 1954.
Robert was a Korean War veteran and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Infantry Combat Metal. He coached Little League baseball for 14 years and was past chaplain of the Dubois County chapter of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 77.He worked as foreman at Jasper Corporation for many years and retired from Greater Jasper School Corporation as a maintenance engineer, working there for 26 years. He was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church, V.F.W. Post No. 673, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Singing Seniors.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Stemle; three sons, Zeph Stemle and wife Monica, and Jayme Stemle and wife Tina, all of Greenwood; and Bart Stemle and wife Marla, Winslow; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry, Lawrence, and Ralph Stemle, one sister, Agnes Lueken, and one daughter-in-law, Myra Stemle.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday by DAV Chapter No. 77. Funeral services at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church with entombment following in the Fairview Cemtery Mausoleum. VFW Post No. 673 will conduct military graveside rites.
