Sr. Brenda Englert, OSB, 93, Ferdinand
Sister Brenda Englert, OSB, 93, of Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand, died Saturday (June 6) at the monastery’s Hildegard Health Center. She was born in St. Anthony November 4, 1921, the fifth of six children of Jacob and Sarah (Jahn) Englert.
Sister Brenda entered the Sisters of St. Benedict in 1952 and made her profession of monastic vow in 1954. She was a teacher andi taught at Haubstadt (St. James), Mount Vernon, Rockport, St. Anthony, and St. Joseph in Evansville. She also taught religious education in Vincennes (St. Thomas) and Dale (St. Joseph Parish) and worked I various support services within the monastery, most recently in prayer ministry.
She is survived by one brother, Bernard Englert, Jasper; nieces and nephews; and members of her religious community.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Hsarold Englert, and three sisters, Hilda Staab Whaley, Aurelia Reteneller, and Bernadette Englert.
Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. (EDT) Monday and from 2-4:14 p.m. Tuesday at the monastery. A wake service is scheduled at 7 p.m. Monday.The funeral Mass at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the monastery church followed by burial in the monastery cemetery. Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Benedict.
