Man Charged With Domestic Battery; Three Arrested For Two Separate Thefts (BLOTTER)
JASPER (NNDC) – A domestic altercation has landed a man in jail.
Jasper police say 32-year old Kevin Mejia was taken into custody after officers determined the altercation did take place at a residence on Berne Strasse on Jasper’s far north side.
Mejia was not at the home when JPD officers arrived. He was located a short time later in Huntingburg and was arrested by Huntingburg police officers.
JPD says Mejia also took the alleged victim’s phone in the altercation.
Mejia is charged with Domestic Battery along with Interference with the Reporting of a Crime, Theft, and Possession of Counterfeit Government Identification (all Class A misdemeanors) and Forgery (a Level 6 felony).
Police did not elaborate on the latter two charges but in their report, police say Mejia has no known home address.
Local Woman Charged With Theft From Huntingburg Convenience Store
HUNTINGBURG (NNDC) – A 21-year old Huntingburg woman has been charged with theft after she and a juvenile were arrested Sunday evening at Casey’s General Store on South Main Street.
HPD says they were called to the store shortly after 9pm. After talking with a store employee, police then went to a nearby home where Kendall and a juvenile were located. HPD says both admitted to stealing items from the store.
Both are charged with theft. Kendall was taken into custody; the juvenile was released to a parent.
Walmart Employee Arrested For Stealing Items From Store
JASPER (NNDC) – A Walmart store employee was arrested this past Friday morning charged with stealing several items from the store over a several week period.
Jasper police were called to the store on north Newton Street shortly before Noon Saturday where store personnel had detained 28-year old Brian Poehlein of Washington; a store employee.
JPD says admitted to store officials to stealing three or four soft drinks along with a five-quart jug of motor oil and a bag of potato wedges. The estimated value of items taken; $35.
Local Man Arrested For Violating Protective Order Against Him
HUNTINGBURG (NNDC) – A Huntingburg man recently released from jail was arrested Friday afternoon for violating a protective order against him.
Huntingburg police were call to an apartment in the 200 block of North Walnut Street shortly after 3pm Friday. There a female told HPD her ex-boyfriend, 28-year old James Clements had returned to the apartment after being released from jail earlier in the day.
HPD determined the apartment was Clements’ last known address, but there was a protective order in place against him.
HPD says they found Clements sitting on a couch in the apartment when they arrived. HPD says Clements told them he was aware of the order but thought he was allowed to return home.
HPD says the protective order states Clements is to have no contact with the victim and police learned that Clements was advised by Dubois Circuit Court of the order.
The female at the apartment advised HPD she wanted to press charges. Clements was arrested for Invasion of Privacy, a misdemeanor.
Police asking for Public’s Help With Accident Investigation
JASPER (NNDC) – Jasper police are asking if anyone witnessed a traffice accident Friday afternoon at Third and Main Streets.
The accident happened at about 3pm involving a Chevrolet Equinox and a Toyota Corolla.
