Jasper Wins IHSAA 3A Baseball Regional
HUNTINGBURG (NNDC) – The top-ranked Jasper Wildcats defeated Mt. Vernon, 6-2, Saturday night to win the 3A high school baseball sectional at League Stadium in Huntingburg. The victory, which avenged Jasper’s only loss this season, sends the Cats into next week’s one-game semistate.
Jasper managed only four hits in the game, but Mt. Vernon helped matters with four errors, including three in the bottom of the second which contributed to a five-run inning for the winners. One of the errors was a 3-base miscue with the bases loaded clearing the bases for Jasper.
Cal Kreuger, who pitched the first five innings, was the winning pitcher. Brandon Bayer closed things out over the last two frames. Mt. Vernon outhit Jasper, 6-4, but it wasn’t enough to offset their four errors.
Jasper sophomore first baseman Evan Aders was voted the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Aders was 5 for 6 in the two Regional games.
Jasper will take a 29 and 1 record into the semistate. Mt. Vernon ends its season with a 21 and 6 slate.
