Father Ken Betz Celebrates 50th Jubilee
HAUBSTADT (NNDC) – Father Kenneth Betz, a Jasper native and former pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, celebrated his 50th Jubilee Sunday in Haubstadt. After celebrating mass with Father Betz at St. James Catholic Church in Haubstadt, a large crowd of family and friends assembled in the school auditorium to pay tribute to Betz, presently pastor at St. James.
The crowd included a number of Betz’ classmates at St. Joseph’s Grade School in Jasper, which he attended for eight years, graduating in 1953. Some of the classmates, pictured above with their former classmate at the reception, included, l. to r., Marilyn Fetcher Begle, Janice Lampert Kress, John Hopf, Mary Carolyn Kiefer Hopf, Jerry Birge, Marilyn Kreilein Kress, Charlie Knust, Sara Knies Meyer, and Joe Sermersheim. Father Betz, son of the late Ray and Catherine Betz of Jasper, was ordained May 27, 1965, at Holy Trinity Pro-Cathedral in Evansville, and celebrated his first mass May 30, 1965, at St. Joseph Church in Jasper.
