Jasper Man Arrested After Fighting With & Spitting On Police; Had To Be Tazed
JASPER (NNDC) – Jasper police say a fight at a local bar resulted in a local man having to be tazed when he continued fighting with police officers who were called to the scene. Jasper police say the man also spit on one of the officers.
JPD says 31-year old Michael Arteaga faces two felony counts and other charges.
JPD says they responded to a fight at JR’s Bar on South Clay Street shortly after 10:30pm Saturday. Police say when officers arrived on scene, shirtless man (later identified as Arteaga), took off running. A foot chase by police ensued.
A JPD officer caught Arteaga by the railroad tracks to the northwest of the bar. JPD says Arteaga then continued to fight with officers.
JPD says Arteaga did sustain injuries fighting with police, but he continued to fight until he was subdued by police with a tazer gun.
JPD says after Arteaga was taken into custody and handcuffed he spit in a JPD officer’s face.
JPD says Arteaga was belligerent and disorderly then entire with police and EMTs who called to the scene and then later with staff at Memorial Hospital after he was transported there for treatement of his injuries.
Arteaga has been formally charged with a Level 5 felony count of Battery by Bodily Waste, and a Level 6 felony count of Battery on a Public Safety Officer. He’s also been charged with two Class A misdemeanor counts of Battery Resulting in Injury and two Class A misdemeanor counts of Resisting Law Enforcement and a Class B misdemeanor count of Disorderly Conduct.
JPD says Arteaga also faces Battery charges in connection with the fight at the bar prior to police arriving on scene.
