Olivia Knies pitched a one-hitter as the 9th ranked Lady Wildcats blanked host Southridge, 10-0, Thursday to win the 3A sectional championship at the Lady Raiders Softball Complex. Knies retired the first 14 Southridge batters before shortstop Boo Polley spoiled the no-hit attempt in the top of the fifth inning with a two-out pop fly single to right. Knies struck out the next hitter and finished with four strikeouts for the game.

Jasper scored solo runs in the first, second and fourth innings and two in the third before breaking the game open with five runs in the bottom of the fifth.

The winners’ final rally began with a walk to Katelyn Hedinger and a single to Hannah Colvin. Following a strikeout, Erin Terwiske reached on a Southridge error before Nicolette popped out to third for the second out. The two out, game-clinching rally followed. Pinch-hitter Mariah Seifert drove in two runs with a double, Paige Werner walked, Olivia Burger’s single drove in Werner, and the Knies wrapped up her pitching gem with a game-winning single, driving in Werner with the winning run. Knies’ hit sailed into deep right and would have been a triple, but when Werner crossed the plate the game ended on the 10-run rule and Knies was credited with a single. Paige Werner led the winners’ 12 hit attack with three singles,  Seifert had a double and single, and Burger two singles. Jasper will take a 25-6 record into next week’s regional.
