Fire Run To OFS HQ; State Fire Marshal Confirms Second Fire At Jasper Home As Accidental (BLOTTER)
SAUNA HEATING UNIT AT OFS BRANDS SHORTS OUT
HUNTINGBURG (NNDC) – A heating unit in the sauna of the fitness room at the main offices of OFS Brands shorted out causing an “electrical smolder.”
It happened just before 7am Friday morning. Huntingburg firefighters responded. There was not fire , but power was shut down to that part of the building and what smoke there was was cleared from the building which took a less than 20 minutes.
There were about a dozen employees in that part of the building at the time.
LOCAL WOMAN ARRESTED FOR DRUNK DRIVING
HUNTINGBURG (NNDC) — A traffic stop resulted in a Huntingburg woman being taken into custody for drunk driving.
Huntingburg police say they pulled over 51-year old Maria Turner for speeding near First and Main streets at about 11:50am Friday. HPD says her blood alcohol content was .16%. She’s charge with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated.
CHAIN-REACTION ACCIDENT IN JASPER
JASPER (NNDC) – No one was hurt, but four vehicles were involved in a chain-reaction accident Thursday afternoon on Indiana Road 56 near Kluemper Road.
The chain-reaction started when a pickup truck driven by 17-year old Kyle Persohn of Birdseye, ran into a SUV driven by 65-year old Rosella Lee of Jasper.
The impact forced Lee’s vehicle into a car driven by 17-year old Elizabeth Verkamp of Jasper; and that impact forced Verkamp’s vehicle into the back of a car driven by 17-year old Maria Jaent of Jasper.
All four vehicles were southbound on Indiana 56. Jasper police say all three three stopped vehicles were waiting to turn onto Kluemper Road.
Damage total for all four vehicles an estimated $16,000. Persohn was cited for following too closely.
STATE FIRE MARSHAL CONFIRMS SECOND FIRE AT JASPER HOUSE ALSO ACCIDENTAL
JASPER (NNDC) – The Indiana State Fire Marshall’s office says the second fire in the last 10 days at a Jasper home was an accident, just as the first.
CAR FLEES SCENE AFTER BEING STRUCK IN TWO-VEHICLE CHAIN REACTION ACCIDENT
JASPER (NNDC) – A car that was rear-ended in a two-vehicle collision Friday afternoon fled the scene.
Jasper police say no one was hurt. JPD says at about 3:40pm Friday, a car driven by 39-year old Catherine Marlowe of Holland told JPD she was driving south on U. S. 231 (Newton Street) south of Pleasant View Drive when she became distracted and looked away from the roadway.
She says when she looked up and saw a car stopped in front of her, she was unable to stop her car in time before running into it.
JPD says the second car then fled the scene. Police say the second car is a gray of silver passenger car.
No one was hurt.
