Tennis Sectional Openers Rained Out; Jasper Softball Cats Win Share of Big 8
The opening round of the IHSAA Girls Tennis Sectional at Jasper was rained out Wednesday and rescheduled for tonight. First round matches at 4:30 – Jasper vs. Forest Park and Southridge vs. Pike Central. The winners will meet tonight for the sectional championhip.
Forest Park 6 Orleans 0
Forest Park, fresh from a dramatic 1-0, 10-inning victory over rival Northeast Dubois on Tuesday night, continued its winning ways Wednesday with a 6-1 road victory at Orleans. The Lady Rangers shattered a scoreless tie with a five-run fifth inning. Mariah Morgan led a six-hit attack for the winners with double, single, and two RBI. Katelyn Roos added a double and RBI, Taylor Bayer had a single and RBI. Vanessa Lange pitched a four-hitter for the win, striking out four. Orleans’ Armstrong spoiled the shutout bid with a home run in the bottom of the seventh. The Rangers improve to 9 and 14.
Jasper 16 Princeton 3
Jasper pounded out 16 hits and scored in every inning as won in five innings at Princeton, 16-3, in their last regular season game. The win gives the Lady Wildcats a share of the Big 8 Conference championship with a 5-1 league record. Abby Libbert and Grace Werner led the Jasper hitting with three singles each, Nicolette Eckert and Katelyn Hedinger each added a triple and single, and Paige Werner and Olivia Burger each had two singles. Olivia Olinger allowed three singles and struck out 11. Jasper will take a 22 and 6 record into the post season. Jasper also won the jayvee game, 7 to 5.
Tell City 3 Forest Park 1
Tell City’s Hunter Rowe pitched a two-hitter as the Marksmen edged the Rangers, 3-1, at Tell City. The winners scored a solo run in the fourth inning and added two more in the sixth. The Forest Park’s only run came in the sixth. The Rangers’ hits were singles by Ben Wendholt and Damon Wilmes. Forest Park is now 10 and 9.
