Pooches Playground Passes Now For Sale; “Bark Park” Opens (PHOTOS)

JASPER (NNDC) -“Pooch’s Playground” at Gutzweiler Park is now officially open.

The fenced dog park is situated on three-quarters of an acre on the near northside park.

Registered dog owners can access the park just off Mill Street between the 15th green of the Buffalo Trace Golf Course and the north end of Gutzweiler Park. Access to the park is controlled by a locked gate that requires a park membership card to gain access. The lock to the gate was activated at 7 this morning says Jasper parks director Ken Buck.

Buck says dog owners must register their dogs at the city’s parks department which is located at the Habig Center at 1301 St. Charles Street. The cost is $25 annually. Dog owners must also present a current vaccination record at the time of registering their animal.

Currently, the park does feature a surplus water hydrant from the Jasper Water Department. Jill Cravener, a Jasper city employee who helped spearhead the effort to make the Pooch’s Playground a reality, painted the fire hydrant and had it placed inside the park.

Buck says benches and other play structures will be added to the park hopefully later this year.
