Bernard Loechte

Bernard L. Loechte, 92, of Schnellville, died Sunday (May 10) at his home. He was born in Schnellville February 1, 1923, to Joseph and Cornelia (Lueken) Loechte . He married Elfrieda Miller September 11, 1948, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper. She died December 15, 2005.

Bernie was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during WWII in the antiaircraft division. He served overseas for 30 months in Guadalcanal, New Guinea, the Philippines, and Japan. He retired from Hoosier Desk Company, where he worked or 45 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville, a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post No. 673, and a former member of American Legion Post No. 147. He enjoyed playing cards, working on his farm, and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by one son, David Loechte and wife Marilyn, Schnellville; two grandchildren, Valerie Lange and hhusband, Josh, and Michelle Loechte, all of Schnellville; one great-grandson, Hunter Lange; one sister, Alvina Fendel, St. Meinrad; and one brother, Maurice Loechte and wife, Mary Jane, St. Anthony.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille and Lorina Hasenour and Francis Heeke, and one brother, Lawrence Loechte.

Services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church with burial following in the church cemetery. V.F.W. Post No. 673 will conduct military gravesite rights. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Church, Gentiva Hospice, or to a favorite charity.
