Two Hurt; One Arrested In OWI Accident Near St. Marks

ST. MARKS — Two people suffered minor injuries when the pickup truck they were in crashed into embankment Friday night near St. Marks.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says the truck crashed into an embankment along East 400 South northeast of St. Marks just before 10pm.

The two were among four people in the truck driven by 23-year old Joshua Vaal of Celestine. DCSD says Vaal’s pickup was westbound on East 400 South at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the truck at the crest of a hill. DCSD says the pickup ran off the north side of the road and into a ditch where it struck the embankment. The truck then landed in a ditch where it stopped facing partially in the roadway and partially in the ditch.

DCSD says Vaal suffered a cut to his right forearm while passenger 19-year old Kayla Long suffered a small cut to her head, Two oothers passengers, 24-year old Dustin Terwiske and 20-year old Hayley Storm were not injured.

DCSD says Vaal was intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of .15%. He was taken into custody chargedw with a misdemeanor count of operating while intoxicated charge.

DCSD says the pickup truck was a total loss.
