MADISONVILLE, KY (NNDC) – Kentucky State Police have released toxicology results from a fatal single-vehicle accident on the Pennyrile Parkway in March that killed a University of Southern Indiana student from Ireland.

22-year old Alyssa Wagner was driving the SUV with five others on Sunday, March 8th, when the northbound vehicle left the road and hit an overpass. Wagner was pronounced dead at the scene.

KSP says alcohol was not a factor in the crash, and Wagner was not texting at the time of the accident which was at about 11:30am Central time.  KSP also says Wagner was wearing her seatbelt.

KSP believes Wagner may have fallen asleep causing the vehicle to veer off the highway.

Wagner and the five other USI students in the vehicle with her were returning to Evansville from a weekend trip to Nashville, Tennessee.

Three of the five passengers were treated and released from local hospitals; two were life-flighted from the scene to Evansville hospitals; they have since been released.

Wagner, a nursing student, would have graduated from USI this past Saturday.
