Jasper Reds

Jasper Reds Welcome Public to Annual Reunion this Weekend

Jasper (NNDC) – The Jasper Reds welcome the public to their 26th annual reunion this Saturday morning at the Jasper Jaycee Clubhouse.   The reunion will start at 11am Eastern and will feature baseball memorabilia from previous Reds teams.    Refreshments will also be available.

The Jasper Reds are celebrating their 125th season and are currently 16-0 on the season, which is the teams best start since the 2008 season when Jasper started at 15-0.   The latest two wins came by forfeit as a scheduling issue resulted in Terre Haute not being able to play the double header on Saturday July 14th.   Officially both games are scored as 7-0 wins by Jasper.

Jasper Reds business manager Bob Alles discusses this weekends 26th Annual Reunion and why it’s important to find players who best represent the Jasper Reds program.

Jasper Reds Sweep St. Louis, Dubois County Bombers Blank Paducah

Dubois County (NNDC) – The Jasper Reds completed a 3 game sweep at Ruxer Field on Saturday against the St. Louis Eagles.    It was a gorgeous day at the ball park as Jasper dominated a solid team from Missouri.   The Reds complete the sweep with an 11-0 and 14-1 victory on Saturday after winning on Friday night by the score of 16-0.   Jasper is now 14-0 on the season.  It’s the eighth time this year that the Reds have won a game based on the run-rule. The Reds return to action on Saturday July 14th to face the Terre Haute Red Sox.   Game time is set for 2:30pm at Ruxer Field.   If the Reds are able to sweep Terre Haute, they would set a new team record for consecutive wins to start a season.   The current record has stood since 2008 when the Reds won their first 15 games of the season.   That streak was halted by Mt. Vernon, IL as the Reds fell 3-1 in that contest 10 years ago.

In game 1 on Saturday, Clayton Mayfield tossed a 1-hitter, allowing only an opposite field single in the third inning.   Mayfield had 7 strikeouts and walked 1.   Mayfield is now 4-0 on the season.   Jasper got off to a fast start and plated 6 runs in the bottom half of the second and never looked back.   The Reds added 5 more in the fourth inning to put the game out of reach.   Jasper had 9 hits in the game.   Final score of game one was 11-0.

In game 2, the Reds started where they left off in game one as they crossed the plate 7 times in the first inning to take a 7-0 lead.   That would prove to be enough but Jasper’s offense was red hot as they added 3 more in the second inning and 4 more runs in the 4th to finish up the 14-1 win.   Kris Weisheit improved to 4-0 on the season with the victory.   Weisheit allowed 5 hits, all singles in the game.   Jasper was led by former JHS star Austin Simmers with a triple and a double.  Josh Weidenbenner, Lane Kirkland and Brandon Jackson all added doubles.

Reds Business Manager Bob Alles discusses this 2018 team and what has led to the successes and current undefeated season.

In other area Baseball action, the Dubois County Bombers add to their win column with a shutout of Paducah 6-0.   The game was scoreless until the top of the 5th when Dubois County struck for 4 runs and that would prove to be enough for the win.   The Bombers added 2 more in the top of the 9th inning but Paducah could not get anything going against the solid pitching effort from Dubois County.

The Bombers tallied 11 hits on the day with Nick Gonzales, Brad Fuhrhop, Evan Kahre and Jake Lewis each having a multi-hit game.   Evan Sankey earned the victory for Dubois County as he allowed no runs on five hits while striking out nine and walking one.

The win improves Dubois County to 19-13 on the season.    The Bombers travel to Madisonville on Sunday night to face the Miners at Elmer Kelley Stadium.   Game time is 7pm Eastern.    Dubois County’s road trip will continue on Monday as the Bombers will visit Henderson before returning home to League Stadium on Tuesday night to face Fulton.

Jasper Reds Continue Domination of Opponents

Jasper (NNDC) – The 125th season of Jasper Reds baseball is in full swing as the Reds continue their domination over their opponents.   The latest victim was the Owensboro Hardballers as they visited Ruxer Field on Saturday for a doubleheader.

In game one, the Reds picked up a 13-3 victory in 5 innings behind another strong showing from winning pitcher Clayton Mayfield.   He allowed only 3 hits while striking out 8 and walking 2.   Austin Simmers led Jaspers offense with a double and a pair of singles.  Garrett Camp added and double and a single for the Reds on the very hot Saturday afternoon at Ruxer.

In game two, both teams battled through the heat with Jasper once again pulling out the victory.    The 5-3 win was the Reds eleventh win of the season against no losses.   Austin Simmers again led the Jasper attack with a bases clearing triple and a single.   Kris Weisheit picked up the win for Jasper and Devan Franz got the save in relief.   Weisheit improved his record to 3-0 on the season after going 6 2/3 innings and allowing 5 hits in the win.

The Reds return to action this upcoming Friday evening at Ruxer Field as the St. Louis Eagles visit Jasper for a 3 game series.   Game time on Friday is set for 7:15pm.   Jasper and St. Louis will close out the series on Saturday with a doubleheader.  First pitch is set for 2:30pm Saturday.

Jasper Reds to Host the Owensboro Hardballers in Doubleheader this Saturday

Jasper (NNDC) – The Jasper Reds will play host to Owensboro this upcoming Saturday at Ruxer Field in Jasper after improving their record to an impressive 9-0 on the season following 2 shutouts this past weekend.    The Western KY Giants visited Jasper on Saturday for a twin bill and the Reds took care of business with a sweep.

In game one, Jasper’s Bo Daves continued his dominance on the mound while giving up only 2 hits on the day and picking up his 4th win of the season.    Those 2 hits came in the 7th as Daves took a no hitter into the top of the inning before giving up a single and a double.   Daves now has 32 strike outs in 22 innings of work on the season and leads the team with a 0.00 ERA.    The Reds win game 1 by the score of 3-0.

In game 2, Reds lefty Kris Weisheit earned his 2nd win of the season as he pitched a 4 hitter and held Western Kentucky scoreless allowing Jasper to pick up a 1-0 win.    Devan Franz had a pair of singles in the low scoring contest and the lone run for Jasper came in the 7th without the benefit of a hit.   Franz and Jacob Lents helped preserve the shutout with sensational catches and allowed Jasper to pick up it’s 5th shutout of the season.

Jasper will return to action this upcoming Saturday at Ruxer Field with first pitch set for 2pm against the Owensboro Hardballers.   We encourage you to support the Jasper Reds in this their 125th season.

Jasper Reds Continue to Roll & Dubois County Bombers Rained Out

Dubois County (NNDC) – The Jasper Reds continued their winning ways on Saturday with a double header at Ruxer Field.   In game one, Rose Hulman product Clayton Mayfield improved his record to 2-0 on the season as the Reds rolled over Martinsville 18-2.    Mayfield did not allow a walk,  struck out 3 and allowed only 2 singles in the victory.   Former Jasper Wildcats Trevor Krapf and Noah Weidenbenner doubled for the Reds while Jacob Lents and Zach Scheid added a couple of singles in the win.

Jasper also scored 18 runs in game 2 and picked up a shutout win as the Reds Bo Daves improves to 3-0 on the season.  Daves didn’t allow a hit until the 5th inning when he gave up a one out double.   Lane Kirkland led the offense with a triple and 2 singles which led to 6 RBI’s in the 18-0 win.

The Jasper Reds remain undefeated at 7-0 on the season and will host the Western Kentucky Giants this upcoming Saturday at Ruxer Field with first pitch scheduled for 3pm Eastern Time.

In other baseball action on Saturday, the Dubois County Bombers were trailing the Fulton Railroaders 5-3 in the bottom of the 2nd when heavy rain entered the area which forced a cancellation of the game.   The Bombers will make up the game with Fulton in a double header on June 28th at League Stadium.    The first of the two 7 inning games is set to start at 5pm Eastern.   The XPOGO Stunt Team was scheduled to perform at the game and the Bombers are attempting to get them rescheduled.    The Bombers return to the field on Sunday night against the Hoptown Hoppers as they celebrate Faith, Family and Fathers Day.   Game time is set for 6pm.
