Genevieve “Jennie” Houtsch, 92, Otwell

Genevieve “Jennie” Houtsch, 92, of Otwell, died Friday, October 16, at Northwood Good Samaritan Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born in Dubois June 18, 1928, to John and Matilda (Braun) Neukam. She married James N. Houtsch September 26, 1953, in Granite City, Illinois. He died September 22, 2020.

Jennie was a homemaker and enjoyed traveling, dancing, and boating on Patoka Lake. She was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Dubois, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Auxiliary, and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Auxiliary.

She is survived by two daughters, Donna Brandt and husband Kevin, Jasper, and Doreatha Lintzenich and husband Steven, Mt. Vernon; one son, Michael Houtsch and wife Judy, Otwell; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, Ruben John Houtsch, who died in infancy, one brother, Floyd Neukam, and one sister, Eunice Welton.

Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper and from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peters Church. In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family asks memorial contributions be made to St. Peter’s Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherkluesner.com. Funeral services at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church with burial following in the church cemetery. Pastor John Sterrett will officiate. Masks and social distancing will be required for the visitation and service.
