Mary Ruth Emmons, 91, Cuzco

Mary Ruth Emmons, 91. of Cuzco, died Wednesday, April 29, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper. She was born in Cuzco December 28, 1928, to Earl and Olive (Cox) Beatty. She married George W. “Buddy” Emmons June 20, 1948, at Cuzco Methodist Church. He died January 23, 2015.

Mary Ruth was a 1946 graduate of Cuzco High School. She obtained associates degrees from Lockyears Business College and Northwood Institute where she earned Summa Cum Laude honors. She worked as an office manager at Paoli Hospital and as a secretary at Northwood Institute and retired from there. She was a member of Wickliffe United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and played piano. She enjoyed music and was a member of the Dubois Musical Belles, and sang for Jasper nursing home residents. She loved working outside in her flower garden, watching college basketball, her favorite team was the Indiana Hoosiers. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by one daughter, Peggy Burton and husband Gordon, Cuzco; three sons, Garry Emmons and wife Pat and Timothy Emmons and wife Missy, all of Cuzco, and Danny Emmons and wife Janie, Corydon; seven grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren, and one on the way.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Jessie B., Clint W., and infant Shain Emmons.

Private funeral services will be held at Becher-Kluesner Funeral Homes in Jasper with burial following at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the Cuzco Cemetery. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherkluesner.com.
