Paul E. Kreilein, 87, Jasper

Paul E. Kreilein, 87, of Jasper, died Friday, February 14, at at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in Jasper July 28, 1932, to Anton “Tony” and Emma (Scherle) Kreilein. He married Luella Heitz June 9, 1956, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg.

Paul was a U.S. Navy veteran. He served as a radio operator in the Korean Conflict and was a lifetime member of Jasper VFW Post 673. He retired from the Haysville Mill after 38 years of service as operations manager and was a part time farmer. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a former member of the Jasper Moose and Jasper Outdoor Recreation. He was fundamental in helping to start the Haysville Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed being a Ham Radio operator, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was an avid Indiana University basketball and St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan and enjoyed spending time with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Luella Kreilein; three sons, Michael Kreilein and wife Carla, Newport News, Virginia, Philip Kreilein and wife Sharie, Haysville, and Andrew Kreilein and wife Elaine, Bretzville; three grandchildren, Kevin, Will, and Jack Kreilein; four step grandchildren, Morgan, Adrian, Evan, and Natalie; four step great-grandsons, Evan, Julian, Max, and Owen; and three sisters, Kathleen Oser and husband Jerome, Huntingburg, Carol Gwaltney and husband Vince, New Harmony, and Phyllis “Jane” Winkle, Jasper.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Emma Kreilein.

Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherkluesner.com. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church with burial following in Shiloh Cemetery. VFW Post 673 will conduct military graveside rites.
