Jeff Weyer, 64, Ferdinand

Jeff Weyer, 64, of Ferdinand, died Saturday, January 11, at his home. He was born at home to Edward and Leonarda Weyer. He married Joan Reckelhoff July 9, 1977, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand.

Jeff was a 1973 graduate of Forest Park High School and a 1977 graduate of Indiana University School of Business. He was manager at Hyplex Corporation in the late 1970s and an operations manager at Wilmes Window for 10 years. He began his own Christmas tree growing business in 1980 and in 1990 Weyer Tree Farm and Nursery became his full time occupation. He was a 45 year member of the Sons of American Legion Post 124, serving as a post commander for one year. He was a member of Christ the King – St. Ferdinand Church and enjoyed traveling (through all 50 states, Canada, Mexica, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands), hunting animals, pitching horse shoes, and managing Little League and Pony League baseball..

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Joan Weyer; one son, Jon Weyer and wife Capri, Newburgh; one daughter, Janelle Reeves and husband Nathan, Bloomington; four grandchildren, Sonya, Eva, Lena, and Nora; one sister, Bev Schulthise, Ferdinand; his stepmother, Mary Weyer, Ferdinand; sister-in-law Marilyn Weyer, Ferdinand; step-sisters Kim (Mary Warner) Becher, Jasper, and Laura Becher, Ferdinand; and step-brother Joey Becher and wife Sarah, Ferdinand.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Timothy Weyer, and one brother-in-law, Gary Schulthise.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 7-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Online condolences can be shared at A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ferdinand Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
