Earlene Schmett, 91, Holland

Earlene Schmett, 91, of Holland, died Tuesday, December 24, at the Good Samaritan Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born in Birdseye September 22, 1928, to James Jesse and Virgie (Carmichael) Eckert. She married Hilbert A. Schmett July 8, 1948, at Salem Church in Huntingburg.

Earlene was a retired farmer and also worked at General Electric. She was a member of Augustana United Church of Christ in Holland, the Holland Happy Homemakers, and the Huntingburg Fraternal Order of Eagles.

She is survived by two daughters, Janet Goldbin and husband Tom, Chesterton, and Phyllis Vogler and husband David, Jasper; one son, David Schmett and wife Brenda, Huntingburg; one sister, Imogene Maxwell, Rensselaer; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. Memorial contributions can be made to Augustana United Church of Christ.
