Alvina E. Knust, 98, Schnellville

Alvina E. Knust, 98, of Schnellville, died Monday, December 23, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. She was born in Schnellville April 28, 1921, to Theodore and Clara (Boeglin) Schnell. She married Leo E. “Pud” Knust May 7, 1946, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville. He died October 23, 2013.

Alvina was a homemaker, a cook for the Southeast School Corporation for several years, and was previously a 4-H leader. She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish – Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville and its St. Anne’s Society, St. Vincent DePaul Society, the Schnellville Home Economics Club, and the Schnellville Community Club. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed canning, baking, sewing, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by five daughters, Susie Larson and husband Jack, Crawfordsville, Mary Winters and husband Bill and Annette Schuetter and husband Dave, all of Schnellville, Martha McCaffry and husband Randy, Boonville, and Monica “Rosie” Endres and husband Jeff, Indianapolis; two sons, Ed Knust and wife Kathy and John “Pudder” Knust, all of Schnellville; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Audrey Knust, two sisters, Eileen Nelson and Anna Mae Haury, and one brother, Arnold Schnell.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper and from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Church. The St. Anne’s Society will pray a rosary at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Sacred Heart Cemetery Fund or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with burial following in the church cemetery.
