Louise E. “Lou” Schaeffer, 79, St. Henry

Louise E. “Lou” Schaeffer, 79, of St. Henry, died Monday, December 16, at Northwood Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Jasper. She was born in Jasper September 11, 1940, to Emil and Lucille (Wehr) Burger. She married Dennis A. Schaeffer November 22, 1962, in Jasper. He died January 11, 2018.

Lou was a nurse for 47 years at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was a 1961 graduate of St. Mary’s nursing program. She was a CPR instructor and parish nurse for Christ the King parish, a member of Christ the King Parish, St. Henry Church, Christian Mothers, and the Red Hat Society. She was a 4-H leader for 25 years and enjoyed gardening, reading, and spending time with her grandkids.

She is survived by one son, Nick Schaeffer and wife Cassie, St. Henry; two daughters,   Shelly Boeglin and husband Ed, Huntingburg, and Melissa Mehringer and husband Kevin, Jasper; three brothers, Don Burger, Terre Haute, Jim Burger and wife Carol, Blacksburg, Virginia, and Ted Burger and wife Carol, Fairland; four sisters, Rosie Nichols and husband Dan, Franklin, Kentucky, Margaret Kuczynski, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Dorothy Kidwell, Huntingburg, and Sadie Harpenau and husband Ray, St. Henry; and seven grandchildren.

Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 7-9:30 a.m. Thursday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand.
