Gerald J. “Jerry” Hief, 79, Jasper

Gerald J. “Jerry” Hief, 79, of Jasper, died Monday, December 16, at his home. He was born in Jasper March 15, 1940,  to Leo J. and Helen F. (Fierst) Hief. He married Leona M. Vogler June 19, 1965, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville. She died December 14, 2017.

Jerry was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of American Legion Post 147 in Jasper. He retired from Jasper Engine Exchange after 20 years of service, and also worked in maintenance for several area furniture manufacturers. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, where he served on the bereavement committee and counted weekly church collections. He was a member of Jasper Outdoor Recreation and Jasper Moose Lodge 1175. He enjoyed playing cards on Saturday night with his friends and spending time with his family.

He is survived by one daughter, Angie Rahman and husband David, Newburgh; two sons, Curt and Roger Hief, both of Jasper; six grandchildren, Lydia, Cole, and Sydney Rahman and Noah, Mariah, and Collin Hief; and two sisters, Alice Deer, Goodyear, Arizona, and Marian Thiesing, Boulder City, Nevada..

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and from 10-11 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Church. Jasper Moose Lodge 1175 will conduct a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to Holy Family Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherkluesner.com. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with entombment following in the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. American Legion Post 147 will conduct military graveside rites.
