Delphia Sendelweck, 83, Jasper

Delphia Sendelweck, 83, of Jasper, died Tuesday, December 17, at Good Samaritan Society- Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born in Loogootee March 2, 1936, to Orian and Ora (Parsons) Hembree. She married John Sendelweck June 8, 1957, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haysville. He died September 8, 2011.

Delphia babysat for over 30 years and was a homemaker. She was a member of WELCA and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She volunteered at Good Samaritan Retirement Community for many years where she won the community’s Volunteer of the Year award in 2004. She enjoyed traveling on cruises and bus tours. She especially enjoyed her trip to Los Angeles where she attended a live showing of her favorite game show, “The Price is Right.” She had a passion for playing cards, going to dances, shopping, and spending time with friends and family.

She is survived by three daughters, Ann Sendelweck, Huntingburg, and Arlene Luker and husband Jeff and Tara Roach and husband Travis, all of Jasper; three sons, Randy Sendelweck, Evansville, Richard Sendelweck, Jasper, and Ron Sendelweck, Jeffersonville; six grandchildren: Lauren Nigg, Newburgh, Karissa Luker, Jeffersonville, Emma Luker, Jasper, Faith Sendelweck, Evansville, and Dakota and Devon Roach, both of Jasper; one step-grandson, Matthew Luker, Celestine; family friend Lorenzo Vaiardi, Italy; companion Stanley Letterman, Jasper; two great-grandchildren and one on the way; three step great-grandsons; one sister, Lucille Fuhrman, Loogootee; and one brother, Norman Hembree, Carlisle.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by eight sisters, Mary Hembree, Melva Simmons, Sylvia  Keller, Edith Ziegler, Ora Taylor, Crystal Dyal, Veda Chambers, and Velma Wening, and four brothers;  Alvin, Ernie, Woody, and Bub Hembree.

Friends may call from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Becher Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, and from 10-11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Church. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul’s Church, the Good Samaritan Society-Northwood Retirement Community, and Heart to Heart Hospice.
