Carol Gaesser, 70, Ferdinand

Carol Gaesser, 70, of Ferdinand, died Friday, December 13, at her home. She was born August 30, 1949, to Alois “Sas” and Pauline M. (Dischinger) Tretter. She married David Gaesser June 3, 1972, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church.

Carol was a retired teacher at St. Anthony and Pine Ridge Elementary schools. She was a lifelong member of Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Church, and its St. Anne’s Sodality. She was a 1967 graduate of St. Ferdinand High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree from St. Benedicts and a Master’s Degree from Indiana State University. She was a charter member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority, Ferdinand Daughters of Isabella, Ferdinand American Legion Auxiliary, and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed her grandchildren, knitting, camping, and gardening.

She is survived by her husband, David Gaesser; one daughter, Jennifer Ebert and husband Philip, Greenfield; one son, Mark Gaesser and wife Kate, of Carmel; three granddaughters, Caroline and Sarah Ebert and Reeve Gaesser; two brothers, Richard “Digger” Tretter and wife Kathy, Ferdinand, and Joe Tretter, Wasilla, Arkansas; two sisters, Miriam Ash, Ferdinand, and Madonna Gerber and husband Greg, Wasilla, Arkansas; and sisters-in-law Georgia Tretter, Dale, and Elizabeth Tretter, Ferdinand.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by four brothers, Kenny, Patrick, Mark, and Charles Tretter, and one brother-in-law, Paul Ash.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday and from 7-9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the wishes of the family. Online condolences can be shared at A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ferdinand Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
