Eugene R. “Gene” Lampert, 71, Jasper

Eugene R. “Gene” Lampert, 71, of Jasper, died Saturday, November 2, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in Jasper April 8, 1948, to William and Philomena (Kapp) Lampert. He married Lucinda “Cindy” Werner May 9, 1976, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper.

Gene was a lifelong farmer in the Jasper area. He was a member of Holy Family Church in Jasper and its Holy Name Society. He was an avid nature lover and fisherman and enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a devout Notre Dame and Cleveland Indians fan

He is survived by his wife, Cinday Lampert; one son, Jake Lampert and wife Brooke, Ireland; one daughter, Jenna Merkel and husband Ethan, Jasper; four grandchildren, Reece, Andyn, and Cole Lampert, and Cecilia Merkel (a new Merkel grandson is on the way); two sisters, Virginia Vaal and husband Art and Rosie Werner and husband Ed, all of Jasper; three brothers, Ambrose Lampert and wife Nancy, Roman Lampert and wife Carol, and Linus Lampert and wife Judy, all of Jasper; and brother-in-law Jerry Vaal, Carmel.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Alberta Voegerl and Sally Vaal, and one brother, Norbert Lampert.

Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Holy Family Parish will pray a rosary at 2:45 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to Holy Family Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with entombment following in the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum.
