Frederick L. Vittitow II, 87, Ferdinand

Frederick L. Vittitow II, 87, of Ferdinand, died Tuesday, October 29, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in Louisville February 20, 1932, to Frederick and Lenora (Bartley) Vittitow I. He married Stella May March 27, 1954, at St. Meinrad Catholic Church.

Frederick was a member of Christ the King Parish-St. Ferdinand Church and its Church Bible Study Group. He was a carpenter for Rahman Lumber Co., Wilmes Window Manufacturing, and The Stens Corporation. He was a retired 20-year member of the Indiana National Guard and Ferdinand American Legion Post 124. He was an avid fisherman, especially ice fishing, and a member of the Spencer County and Dubois County Bassmasters clubs. He enjoyed camping, was a member of the Happy Go Lucky and Hoosier Camping Clubs, and enjoyed spending the winter in Florida.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Stella Vittitow; three daughters, Carla Gogel and husband Raymond, Green Valley, Arizona, LaVonne VanWinkle and husband Russell, Bristow, and Sonya Waninger and husband Randy, Ferdinand; one son, Fred Vittitow III and wife Tammie, Dubois; seven grandchildren, Christopher and Patrick VanWinkle, Philip Gogel, Alyssa Englert, Amanda Schebler, and Jordan and Courtney Vittitow; one sister, Gloria Reiber, Dayton, Ohio, and one brother, David Weyer, New Zealand.

Friends may call from 9-11 am Monday at St. Ferdinand Church. Online condolences can be shared at A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with burial following  in the church cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Legion Post 124.
