James Odell Roettger, Sr., 86, Huntingburg

James Odell Roettger, Sr., 86, of Huntingburg, died Saturday, October 12, at The Waters of Huntingburg. He was born in Stendal December 14, 1932, to Justus Henry John Roettger and Mary Bernice (Norric) Roettger Eckert. She died January 25, 2016.

James grew up in Stendal where he attended St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. He then lived in Tell City for 27 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.

He is survived by three sons, James “Jim” Roettger, Jr. and his wife Sharon, Stendal, Mark Roettger and wife Debbie, Huntingburg, and Scott Roettger and wife Fran, Dubois; one daughter, Kimberly Chandler and husband Jeff, Dubois;  two half-brothers, Mike Eckert, Ireland, and Roger Eckert, Stendal; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by two sons, Steven and Jeffrey Roettger, one daughter, Trina Cooper, and two sisters, Carol Astrike and Lola Philpot.

Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Peter’s Church. Online condolences can be shared at www.nassandson.com. Funeral services at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with burial following in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Stendal. Pastor Ed Wicks will officiate at the service.
