John C. Summers, 85, Jasper

John C. Summers, 85, of Jasper, died Thursday, October 10, in St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. He was born in Loogootee March 1, 1934, to John T. and Mary O. (Patterson) Summers. He married Jeannine Parker May 22, 1954, at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois.

John was a United States Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was an electrical engineer for 32 years for Crane Naval Depot, was a consultant for the Science Application International Corp. (SAIC) for eight years, and was a consultant for and retired from EG&G. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, American Legion Post 147 the Naval Activity Retired Federal Association (NAFRA), and the Jasper Flying Club (JRC). He enjoyed travelling with his wife, reading, playing golf, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannine Summers; one daughter, Denise Summers, Jasper; one son, Douglas (Kenda) Summers and wife Kenda, Franklin; five grandchildren, Spenser, Brittany, Lindsey, Shaina, and Griffin; and one brother, Thomas Summers and wife Becky, Loogootee.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four sisters, Patricia Bowling, Mary Louise Yarnell, Janet Jones, and Judy Summers; and one brother, Kenneth Summers.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherkluesner.com. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with burial following in Enlow City Cemetery in Jasper. American Legion Post 147 will conduct military graveside rites.
