Richard L. Knies, 87, Jasper

Richard L. Knies, 87, of Jasper, died Thursday, October 3, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in Celestine November 16, 1931, to Ted and Margaret (Humbert) Knies. He married Carol Jean Schnell October 23, 1954, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Richard served in the Indiana Army National Guard and was a member of American Legion Post 147. He was owner and operator of Knies Floor and Wall Covering in Jasper. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Jasper Knights of Columbus, the Celestine Community Club, and the Schnellville Conservation Club. He enjoyed working and playing cards.

He is survived by his wife, Carol J. Knies; one daughter, Marcia Murry and husband Steve, Ireland; two sons, Mark Knies and wife Kathy and Daniel Knies and wife Suzanne, all of Jasper, eight grandchildren, Cale and Brett Knies, Amanda Gehlhausen, Beth Beyke, Cody and Kent Murry, and Lee and Blake Knies; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Brenda Epple and husband C.G., Haubstadt; three brothers, Larry Knies, Jasper, Dallas Knies and wife Inez, Celestine, and Doug Knies and wife Kathy, Evansville; and brother-in-law Paul Striegel, Jasper.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Jane Striegel.

Friends may call from 1-6 p.m. Sunday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel and from 9-10 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Church.
