Ernest L. “Ernie” Begle, 82, Jasper

Ernest L. “Ernie” Begle, 82, of Jasper, died Monday, September 23, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in Jasper October 8, 1936, to John and Frieda (Wendholt) Begle. He married Marilyn Fetcher November 25, 1958, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper.

Ernie served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was a member of American Legion Post 147. He was a professional photographer and specialized in wedding photography. He was a photographer for the Dubois County Herald for 50 years and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. He enjoyed gardening, playing softball, attending his grandkids’ sporting events, playing pranks on friends, spending time at “The Lot”, and with friends, family, and his cat Black.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marilyn Begle; one daughter, Kelly Norris, Missouri City, Texas; three sons, Kurt Begle and wife Pam, Greg Begle and wife Jenny, and Dean Begle and wife Donna, all of Jasper; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Annie “Sis” Altmeyer, Huntingburg;  and one brother, Rich Begle, Jasper.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Leroy Begle, and his dog, Bobe.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church with burial following at a later date in Enlow City Cemetery in Jasper. American Legion Post 147 will conduct military graveside rites.
