Emily Ann Rauscher, 36, Salt Lake City, Utah

Emily Anne Rauscher, 36, of Salt Lake City, Utah, died Monday, September 16, in Salt Lake City. She was born in Jasper June 7, 1983, to Steven L. and Cheryl Ann (Gerlach) Rauscher.

Emily was a 2002 graduate of Southridge High School and received her Ph.D from the University of Missouri. She was a member of the National Communication Association.  She taught for one year at the University of Southern Indiana and five years at Texas A&M before taking a position as Associate Professor of Communication Studies at the University of Utah. She was an accomplished scholar and influential contributor to the study of health and family communication, publishing in a number of journals including Communications Quarterly and the Journal of Family Communication. She loved reading and was a teacher and mentor, cultivating future scholars in the family and health communication fields.

She is survived by her parents, Steve and Cheryl Rauscher ; two brothers, Jeff Rauscher and wife Laura, Clarksville, Tennessee, and Nathan Rauscher, Huntingburg; her boyfriend, Brandon Bryant, Salt Lake City; and two nieces, Avery and Cailyn Rauscher.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents,  Russel and Bernice Gerlach and Louanna and Wilford Rauscher.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday and from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg  Memorial contributions can be made to the Dubois County Foundation for the Emily Rauscher Scholarship Fund or to a favorite charity. Cathy Rosenholst will officiate at the service.
