Dr. Jon Gregory “Gregg” Ellison, 72, Huntingburg

Dr. Jon Gregory “Gregg” Ellison, 72, of Huntingburg, died Sunday, September 15, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in Richmond February 4, 1947, to Thomas O. and Christine G. (Lane) Ellison.

Dr. Ellison was a 1965 graduate of Williamsburg High School. He attended Indiana University-Earlham College Branch in Richmond for one year and then Indiana University in Bloomington where he earned a B.S. degree in zoology. He was accepted to the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1969 and earned his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1973. After completing his internship in 1974 at Wishard Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis he started his family medical practice at the Huntingburg Clinic. He practiced at both Memorial Hospital in Jasper and St. Joseph’s Hospital in Huntingburg. He helped organize the first Intensive care unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital where he served as chief of staff and medical director for the intensive care unit. He was also medical director for The Waters of Huntingburg nursing center. He enjoyed writing poetry and painting; and was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears.

He is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Cohn and husband Matthew, Indianapolis, and Megan Wilson and husband Keith, Ft. Drum, New York; his significant other, June Garrison, Huntingburg; one brother, Thomas Ellison, Richmond; five grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 1-6 p.m. Saturday at Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society. Online condolences can be shared at www.nassandson.com. Memorial services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
