Dubois County 4H Shooting Sports name Instructor of the Year

Jasper – (NNDC)  – Dubois County 4H Shooting sports has grown to become a very popular but also important part of 4H, in Dubois County there are around 120 students in shooting sports.  Sunday a good group of parents, volunteers, and student families met at the 4H Clover Pavilion to celebrate another successful year of Shooting Sports.  This year the local 4H Shooting sports sent 3 projects up to the state fair and two students earned Blue ribbons.

After a good meal Hannah Beck talked about what is coming up for the near year of shooting sports and also mention that they have streamlined the sign up process this year and Jared Beck gave a report on the status of a building for shooting sports on the fairgrounds which seems to be on course and they will be meeting again in a couple of weeks with the Dubois County commissioners.

Dubois County 4H shooting sports is so successful because of the many hours and work put in by the volunteers, instructors who really care, and great cooperation  with 4H families and area business.  Annually over the last few years Dubois County Shooting Sports has named a Volunteer of the Year award.  This year’s Dubois County Shooting Sports Volunteer of the Year goes to Steve Lechner.

Steve is an active Shooting Sports instructor and is a jack of all trades. He is a flexible instructor that has taught many disciplines ranging from archery to shotgun. He always shows up with a positive attitude and is willing to do what it takes to get the job done. He is also  resident chef for both our 4H events and Hunter Education.  (Steve is second from left putting on his vest.)

Dubois County 4H Shooting Sports is in State District 7, Tim Beck with Indiana Hunter Education said a few words at the dinner and also recognized longtime Shooting Sports Instructor and volunteer John Butler for being chosen as the District 7 Instructor of the year, John Butler has been involved with the shooting sports program and hunter education since the beginning locally and is well liked by all.  Because of being chosen in District 7, John is also in the running to be named Instructor of the Year for the entire state of Indiana.
