Carl Edward Neukam, 87, Birdseye

Carl Edward Neukam, 87, of Birdseye, died Friday, August 30, at his home. He was born in Jasper August 14, 1932, to Charles John and Arletha (Sturgeon) Neukam. He married Helen Kathryn Whaley August 14, 1955, in Birdseye.

Carl worked for Kimball International. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of VFW Post 673 and American Legion Post 147 in Jasper.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Kathryn Neukam; two sons, Dennis Neukam and Daniel Neukam and wife Martha, all of Birdseye; two brothers, Jim Neukam and Junior Ray Neukam and wife Barb, all of Huntingburg; one sister Joyce Dietrich, Petersburg; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Murele Ahrens.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. Online condolences can be shared at www.nassandson.com. Funeral services at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with burial following in the Birdseye Cemetery. Minister Kim Allen will officiate at the service. Joint graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 147 and VFW Post 673 memorial details.
