Linda L. Giesler, 82, Jasper

Linda L. Giesler, 82, of Jasper, died Friday, August 30, at the Ketcham Memorial Center in Odon. She was born in Jasper June 18, 1937, to Martin and Louise (Hopf) Vogler, the  third oldest in a family of 16. She married Carl Giesler, Jr. October 26, 1957, at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper. He died September 22, 2011.

Linda was a graduate of Jasper High School and a 1982 graduate of Vincennes University, where she received her Associate’s Degree in Nursing. She assisted her husband at Giesler’s Restaurant, served as a registered nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Huntingburg and Memorial Hospital in Jasper. Following a 25-year nursing career she became primary caretaker for her husband prior to his passing. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland, enjoyed fishing, walking, especially on the river walk, travelling, bird watching, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by one daughter, Jayne Baker and husband Tim, Odon; four sons, Michael Giesler and Joseph Giesler and companion, Margie Sermersheim, all of Jasper, IN, Mark Giesler and wife Palladino, Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Jason Giesler and wife Jennifer, Bloomington; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five sisters, Carol Schmitt and husband Michael, Ireland, Judy Steiner and husband Tom, Carmel, Nancy Norton and husband Tom, Chicago, Kathy Whitten, San Diego, California,  and Christy Harmon and husband Dave, Nashville; and four brothers, Ken Vogler, Albequerque, New Mexico, Rich Vogler and wife Katie, Hawaii, Bill Vogler, Bloomington, and Tony Vogler and wife Kathy, Jasper.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Jane and Georgina Vogler, and four brothers, Donnie and Greg Vogler and two who died in infancy.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. The Memorial Hospital Nursing Auxiliary will conduct a memorial service at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
