Local Harvest Worst in Years

Southern Indiana (NNDC):

It has been a poor year for farmers in the local area. Some experts content that it could be one of the worst crop seasons ever for our area.

The USDA says 32 percent of the state’s corn is rated good to excellent, though 27 percent has been ranked poor to very poor with the remaining classified as fair.

Heavy rains during the Spring planting season forced many  farmers to plant crops late, in many cases after the planting deadline.

When the crops were planted the short dry spell did not help matters. Harvest season and farmers are hoping the results are not as bad as predicted.
