Ernest O. “Ernie” Betz, 75, Celestine

Ernest O. “Ernie” Betz, 75 , of Celestine, died Monday, August 19, at his home. He was born in Schnellville October 2, 1943, to Jerome and Anna Mae (Verkamp) Betz. He married Donna Schepers May 7, 1966, at St. Celestine Catholic Church.

Ernie was a 1961 graduate of Northeast Dubois High School. He was a member of the Army National Guard. He was a lifetime farmer and was employed by Betz Brothers Butcher Shop. He was a member of St. Isidore Parish – St. Celestine Catholic Church in Celestine and the Schnellville Conservation Club. He enjoyed farming and playing Sheepshead.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Betz; three daughters, Karen Scherzsinger and husband Chuck, Celestine, Traci Wineinger and husband Scott, Cuzco, and Robyn Nordhoff and husband Kregg, Kyana; one son, Michael Betz and wife Christine, Celestine; 11 grandchildren, Lauren, Patrick, and Adrienne Betz, Caleb, Cole, and KariAnn Scherzinger, Travis and Colin Wineinger, and Hallie, Hunter, and Hayden Nordhoff; two sisters, Doretha Boeglin and husband Erwin, Ferdinand, and Lou Alice Dilger and husband Sam, Mariah Hill; and three brothers, Ralph Betz and Leroy Betz and wife Jenny, all of Schnellville, and Marvin Betz and wife Phyllis, Celestine.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Isidore Parish or to the St. Celestine Cemetery Fund. Online condolences can be shared at St. Isidore Parish will pray a
rosary at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Celestine Church with burial following in the church cemetery. American Legion Post 147 will conduct military graveside rites.
