High School Golf, Cross Country and Soccer Underway in Dubois County

Dubois County (NNDC):   The 2019 High School Fall Sports for area teams are in full swing.  NNDC will provide complete coverage for all Dubois County High School sports teams this upcoming 2019-20 season.

Golf

The Jasper Girls Golf team placed 5th out of 15 at the Rea Park Golf Club with a total score of 382 on Saturday.  Elizabeth Ackerman shot her personal best of 89.  Halle Knies also shot a personal best of 93.  Avery Bartley and Anna Schmitt shot 100. Ainsley Pierce shot 115.  Hillary Springer shot a personal best of 113.

The Jasper Girls Golf Team beat Vincennes Rivet by 2 strokes at Buffalo Trace on Friday evening.  Elizabeth Ackerman shot 44.  Halle Knies shot 48.  Avery Bartley, Anna Schmitt, and Ainsley Pierce all shot 51.  Allie Schnarr, Hillary Springer, and Emma Ruxer all shot 60

The Forest Park Lady Rangers held their invitational on Saturday at Christmas Lake Golf Club.   The Rangers finished 5th out of the 10 teams that participated.   Forest Park shot a 436.    Southridge who also participated in the invitational shot a 427 which was good enough for 4th place.   Gibson Southern, Evansville Memorial and North Posey finished 1,2,3 respectively.  The medalist was Mallory Russell (Evansville Memorial) who shot a 72.  Individual scores for Forest Park: Maya Jones (95),  Makayla McKim (112) Grace Wendholt (114), Ella Borden (115).   Individual scores for Southridge:  Baileigh Schneider (80), Isabelle Morrison (115),  Emma Marley (116), Meredeth Heim (116), Molie Birchler (128).

Soccer

The Jasper Wildcats got their 2019 campaign started with a huge win over Seymour on Saturday.   The Wildcats picked up their 1st goal in the 41st minute from senior Brian Elizarraras.   Jasper added a goal from sophomore Sam Leonard in the 73rd minute to give the Wildcats a 2-1 victory over the Owls.

Cross Country

The Jasper boys and girls cross country teams performed well at the Lavern Gibson Championship course against some very tough competition.   The boys finished 3rd out of 21 teams.   Brebeuf and Bloomington South finished 1st and 2nd.  The Cats were led by Jackson Miller who finished in 2nd with a time of 16:20, Drew O’Neil placed 5th at 16:38 and Abe Eckman finished in 9th place with a time of 16.47.   There were 358 runners who participated.

The Lady Cats opened up their 2019 season by finishing 11th out of 21 teams.  Jasper was led by Andi VanMeter who placed 5th out of the 294 runners with a 5k time of 19:53.   Kelsie Skorge had a time of 22:32 which was good for 64th place and Kathryn McCoy finished 92nd with a 23:09 time.
